HAPPY HALLOWEEN!👻🎃🐈⬛
Although Halloween is not traditionally celebrated on Kihnu, we’d still like to share a ghost story with you in the spirit of this spooky day. Most people don’t realize that Kihnu is rich with eerie legends and haunting folklore, tales that many islanders still believe today. One such legend, certain to send a chill down your spine, is the path of the dead.
On Kihnu, it’s said that the dead don’t always rest easy in their graves. Some nights, when the sea calls to them, they rise from the graveyard and make their way to Laoba beach, yearning for the fun times they left behind. Silently they must slip out of the graveyard, through the forest, past the six-way intersection, and continue down to Laoba beach.
Over the years, many islanders-young and old-have even seen the dead on their walks. Some have seen a woman standing still, blocking their way, or a tall man in the forest, who suddenly vanishes without a trace. Even dogs seem to sense them, freezing and then barking at something unseen in the darkness.
With each generation, these stories grow, making this legend seem more like reality than fiction.
So, tell us…would you dare to walk the path of the dead alone in the pitch-black night? Then again….perhaps you wouldn’t really be alone…..👀
